Ring Doorbell is undoubtedly one of the best video doorbell products available today. It doesn’t only have excellent resolution and useful app, but even has excellent customer service. Even subscribing to Ring Protect is not a big problem since it is affordable. Ring Video Doorbells are quite popular, but they also come with some slight issues.
They are not big problems, but the fact is the doorbell might not work properly if not correctly set up. It might also be because the unit you received is defective. One of the common issues you may encounter is a Ring Doorbell with static noise. If you have this issue, don’t worry because there are troubleshooting fixes you can try for this.
Do you have a problem with a Ring Doorbell static noise? you can try at home – check your Wi-Fi. Most of the time, static noise or any other audio issue is due to slow or weak Wi-Fi signals. It could also be because the device is too far from the router or a wall blocks it.
If your Internet connection is the problem, the solution is easy. On the other hand, there are also other possible causes for the static noise besides Wi-Fi. Is the Problem Ring Doorbell Static Noise? Here’s the Fix – Check Your Connection
If you are experiencing static noise or any other audio problem, the most common cause is a poor connection. It is true, especially when you only get the static during Live View and not with recordings. The connectivity issue may be between your smartphone and the cloud. It can also be between the Ring Doorbell and the router.
You can fix this with both simple and complex tips that will be discussed here. The complicated fixes are when you need to adjust the settings of your router. If you don’t feel comfortable fiddling with that, you will have to enlist the help of some technicians or contact your ISP.
Anyway, if the issue is about Ring Doorbell static noise, you can try:
Check Internet speeds
Run a speed test to find out whether the static noise was due to low upload/download speeds. You can run the test from your mobile device or PC as long as it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network you use for Ring. Go to Ring.com/speed for the speed test.
Regarding the upload and download speeds required, it has to be at least 1Mbps for the standard 720p Ring Video Doorbell. This speed is essential for optimal performance. As for Ring devices with 1080p resolution, 2Mbps is required for the best audio quality.
Check Signal Strength
The audio of the Ring device also becomes unreliable when your Wi-Fi signal is weak. Therefore, don’t forget to check the signal strength of your home Wi-Fi. You can see if your Ring device receives a good signal by checking the Device Health on the app.
Open the app, go to Device Health and see if the RSSI in the acceptable range. If it isn’t, you should perform a few more tests to find out the exact problem. Check the distance and the router, try to connect with your data, etc.
This way, you can find out which one is exactly you need to fix. If the distance or walls surrounding the router is the problem, there are two solutions here. You can either bring the router closer to the device or use a Wi-Fi extender.
If the problem is a broken router or the Network connection itself, it is best to call your Internet Service Provider. You can upgrade your home Wi-Fi, which will also update your router for a newer model.
Adjusting Router Settings to Fix Audio Quality Issues
If none of the above were the reason behind the static noise of your Ring Doorbell, then let’s move on to the more complicated fixes. This time, you will have to fiddle around on the settings of your router.
- Check and Adjust Router Channel
Check that you are using the correct router channel for the Ring device. If you don’t know yet, wireless networks use various channels for communication. For 2.4GHz, the channels used are from 1-11 in the U.S. They use 1-13 channels in other countries.
If you are using a 5GHz band, it uses select channels from channels 36 to 165. One of the reasons your device is having audio issues is a congested channel. It might also be because of interference, which you can resolve by changing the router channel.
- Switch Channels to Less Congested Ones
In the case of congested channels, you can try changing the channel of the router to 1, 6 or 11. By doing this, you can ensure that the router does not overlap with other channels and cause the weak signal of your home W-Fi.
- Use Wi-Fi Analyzer App
For Android devices, you can use a Wi-Fi analyzer to find out which channels are the most congested. You can also use the router if you know how to work it out. You should do this whenever you have setup problems, notification delays, and video/audio issues.
After performing any of the tips above, make sure to set up the device once again. It likely got disconnected to the Wi-Fi, which you may confuse as another problem. Follow the setup process you did before and connect the Ring Doorbell to your network again.
Factory Reset Your Ring Video Doorbell
If none of the tips above still works, you can reset the device instead. Doing so will disconnect your Rind Doorbell from the Ring app. All data and settings will be erased, which means you will start from the beginning. On that note, make sure you downloaded all video recordings you want to keep.
How to Disconnect Ring Video Doorbell from Ring App
To reset a Ring Doorbell, follow these:
- Open Ring app
- Tap the specific Ring Doorbell
- Click the Setting icon at the screen’s top right corner
- Press the “Remove Device” button
- Select “Delete” on the pop-up screen
Now, your Ring Doorbell is no longer connected to your Ring app. You can start setup again after this.
How to Hard Reset Ring Doorbell
If you cannot access your Ring app, you can to hard reset the device instead. Follow the instructions below:
- Look for the orange button. In the base Ring Doorbell model, you will find this button at the back of the device.
- Press and hold the button for about 15 seconds.
- Release the button after 15 seconds.
- Wait for the light in front of the device to flash a few times. This light means that the device is resetting.
- Wait for at least 5 minutes while your Ring Doorbell undergoes resetting.
- When done, press the orange button again but briefly to put it on setup mode again.
- Proceed into setting up the device once again.
How to Hard Reset Ring Doorbell 2
- Hold down the black button at the front part of the device for at least 15 seconds.
- Release the button when the light in front of the doorbell flashes a few times. It indicates that your device is now restarting.
- Wait for a couple of minutes for the hard reset to complete.
- When it’s done, press the black button again to start setup mode.

- Press the black button on the right side of the device for at least 15 seconds,
- After releasing the button, you should see the light flashing a few times, which shows the device is now in restart mode.
- Wait at least a minute for the process to complete.
- When the process is done, hold and release the button once again.
How to Hard Reset Ring Doorbell 3
- Hold the orange button at the back of the Ring Doorbell. Do this for at least 15 seconds.
- Release the button and wait for the light to flash several times. As you know already, the light means the device is restarting.
- Wait for a while until the resetting process is complete.
- When done, you can press the button once again to start the setup.
Before you start setting up your device, it may be best to uninstall then re-install your Ring app. It could be that the app also contributes to why you hear static noise whenever you start a video. Also, make sure it is updated to the latest version. With a freshly reset Ring Doorbell and downloaded Ring app, hopefully, the issue is resolved.
