Ring Doorbell is one of the best video doorbells in the market today. They are an excellent choice for protecting your home and receiving updates on visitors. Thanks to the synchronized Ring app, you can always view whoever is on your front door wherever you are.
Even better, you have various Ring doorbells to choose from to keep your home under surveillance. From the standard Ring Doorbell to the latest Ring Doorbell 3, they each have features for keeping a close eye on who’s on your door. But no matter how amazing those features are, there are always times when they don’t work as expected.
For instance, your Ring Doorbell is not recording. Since you are not always at home, you wanted to have at least a clip of anyone who visits for review. It’s great to know who came by to your house to ensure your security. But if your Ring Doorbell isn’t working, that’s a problem.
Don’t worry, though.
Ring Doorbell Not Recording – Here’s the Fix to Solve it No Time
So, your Ring Doorbell has not been recording. Specifically, the problem is your Ring Doorbell 2 is not showing live view or recording when someone is at the door. You get a notification alerting you, but when you check the app, there wasn’t any activity. Even when you tried it yourself, it didn’t record.
Similarly, the live view did not work. The Wi-Fi is good, and the doorbell is hardwired, so it is not because of a low battery. What about running the device health in Ring app? You checked, and it also says that everything is okay. There is also no lapse in the coverage as you made sure that you have at least the basic Ring protection plan.
So, why is your Ring Doorbell not recording? Here’s the fix, so don’t worry!
In the beginning, you can try these things:
- Delete the app and reinstall
- Restart your phone before using the app
- Restart the router
Did any of these things work? If yes, good for you. If no, the next thing you can do is to reset the app. Do this by following the instructions below:
- Open Ring app and go the Ring Doorbell that isn’t recording (if you have more than one Ring Doorbells).
- Tap the gear icon you see in the top-right corner. That’s the general setting.
- From there, tap the “Remove Device” at the bottom.
- A pop-up appears then select “Delete.”
After that, you have disconnected or “reset” the app from the device. But you are not done yet. The next thing you need to do is to set up your Ring Doorbell once again.
Since you already have the Ring app, you can skip that step along with creating an account. If you don’t remember how you set up your device, you can follow the steps below:
- Open the app and enter your credentials to log in.
- Upon logging in, you will see a list of the Ring devices you have in your house. Select the Ring Doorbell you want to set up.
- Give your Ring Doorbell a name, either from the pre-made one or your own (click Custom to create your preferred name).
- Allow the doorbell to access your location to obtain an accurate timestamp of videos. Confirm your location, then tap “Continue.”
- Go to your Ring Doorbell, remove the faceplate, and locate the orange/black button. Press this button then tap “Continue” in the app. Doing this links the Ring app to your Ring Doorbell. You will know it is working when you see the light around the doorbell start to spin.
- Connect the Ring Doorbell to your home network. Choose the correct Wi-Fi from the list, enter the password, and click “Continue.” Wait a few seconds for the doorbell to connect.
- You will receive a notification telling you that the setup is a success. Upon receiving that, tap “Continue” in the app to proceed to the next screen.
- The next part of the process lets you add other users. You can stop here if you’re the only one who will be using the app.

How Can You Record and Store the Videos?
Do these Ring video doorbells record 24/7? The answer is they don’t, not unless you have a Ring Protect Plan. Ring doesn’t record or store videos initially. However, you can view if someone is at your door whenever you have an alert through the live video stream.
If you have a Ring Protect Plan, then you can record and store footages. However, this is not a constant 24/7 recording. You will not get a 24-hour record of the day. Instead, your camera will be on standby and ready to record whenever your device detects motion.
It also records when someone presses the doorbell button or initiate a Live View or live video stream. The recordings stay on the server for 60 days. Unless you renew your account, those recordings will be deleted automatically.
If you are not subscribed to Ring Protect, the recordings are not stored unless you post it to the Neighbors App during the Live View event. By doing that, the videos become publicly available. Everyone, you shared it with can view the footage.
How to Access and Delete the Video Recordings?
Thanks to the Protect Plan, you can also download the footage before deleting them. The Ring Protect Plan allows you to store the recordings, download, and delete them. You can delete them manually, either one by one or all at once through the app or Ring.com. As mentioned, those videos get automatically deleted when your account’s storage period expires.
